Society Scholarships

There are a number of scholarships available giving trainees and consultants an opportunity to further their careers and expand their skills base both at home and abroad.  To find out the application requirements for the different scholarships, click here.  PLEASE NOTE THESE SCHOLARSHIPS ARE CURRENTLY SUSPENDED.

Ethicon Trainee Scholarships

Available for the first time in 2011, the Ethicon Trainee Scholarships offered 4 individuals £50,000.  The purpose is to enable an individual to finesse surgical skills in a "Finishing School" scholarship over a targeted experience of 6 months.  To see further details about opportunities avaialble in 2011 click here.  Information is not yet availalbe on the availability of these scholarships in 2012.

The Marian & Christina Ionescu Travelling Scholarship

Established since 2005, the Ionescu Scholarship offers £10,000 for consultants with the aim of providing a stimulus to practice in the UK. The applications are assessed by our Education committee.  The deadline for applications is 14th February each year.  For further information of how to apply, click here.

The Society Scholarship for Cardiac Surgery

The Society Scholarship for Cardiac Surgery offers £10,000 to trainee members of the Society with a special interest in cardiac surgery.  It's availability each depends on the provision of the Ethicon Trainee Scholarship.  To download an application form, click here.  PLEASE  NOTE THIS SCHOLARSHIP IS CURRENTLY SUSPENDED.

The Society Scholarship for Thoracic Surgery

The Society Scholarship for Thoracic Surgery offers £10,000 to trainee members of the Society with a special interest in thoracic surgery.
