The Annual Scientific Meeting 2006 is to be held at the CityWest Hotel and Conference Centre, Dublin, Eire between Monday 13th and Thursday 16th March 2006.

Symposia

There are 2 symposia being held this year by Bayer plc and UK Medical Ltd.  Further details about each is below:

Bayer plc will be hosting a topical breakfast symposium on Tuesday the 14th March, chaired by Dr David Royston from The Harefield Hospital:

"Aprotinin in your practice -where are we now?"

Dr Royston is one of the countries foremost experts on the use of aprotinin in cardiac surgery. He will be joined by Mr Domenico Pagano (Birmingham) and Dr William McBride (Belfast). The symposium will review the use of Trasylol in light of recent publications about it's use. For further details please follow the link  to a more detailed programme.


 
UK Medical Ltd will be holding a symposium on Wednesday 15th March 2006 entitled:

Mitral valve repair - the next steps

Annual Business Meetings 1 & 2

There will be two annual business meetings this year to be held on Monday 13th and Wednesday 15th March.  Please click on the relevant links below to look at the provisional agendas

Guest Speakers

Our 2 guest speakers this year are Timothy J Gardner MD who will be giving the Heart Research UK lecture and Douglas E Wood MD  who will be giving the Pulse lecture.  Further details may be found on the programme page. 

Prizes

There will be 3 prizes available again this year.  The Ronald Edwards Medal for best oral presentation, the John Parker Medal for best interactive presentation and the SCTS Medal for best thoracic presentation.

Prizewinners will be announced at the annual dinner to be held on Thursday, 16th March at the Guinness Storehouse in Dublin.

Single Room €120 a night
Double Room €150 a night

Please note these rates are per room and not per delegate include bed and breakfast.

A courtesy shuttle bus will run from the airport to the venue and then in the evening from the venue into Dublin city centre and return. 

The shuttle coaches can be find outside of the arrivals area of the airport.  The company name will appear on the side of the coaches (Dualway) and an SCTS sign will be clearly visible.  Please click here for timetable.

Evening coaches will drop off at Temple Bar, where you should find a wide choice of restaurants and bars.

Should you choose to take a taxk from the airport, it should cost approximately €40.

 

European and American CME credits


The Annual Meeting of The Society of Cardiothoracic Surgeons of Great Britain & Ireland is accredited by The European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME) to provide the following CME activity for medical specialists. The EACCME is an institution of The European Union of Medical Specialists (UEMS), and forms can be downloaded at http://www.uems.net/.   The meeting is designated for a maximum of 21hours of European external CME credits. Each medical specialist should claim only those hours of credit that he/she has actually spent in the educational activity.EACCME credits are recognised by the American Medical Association towards the Physician's Recognition Award (PRA). To convert EACCME credits to AMA PRA category 1 credit, contact the AMA.
