Adult Cardiac surgery is surgery on the heart and the great vessels in the chest in patients above the age of 16 years. Frequently, it is done to treat complications of ischemic heart disease (for example, coronary artery bypass grafting), treat disease of the heart valves caused by endocarditis, rheumatic heart disease, atherosclerosis, etc. It also includes heart transplantation.
