About

Cardiac Surgery

The Keith Shaw Unit is an adult cardiothoracic surgery unit which provides a full range of cardiac surgery, principally coronary artery bypass and valve surgery. The unit is a national referral centre for patients with acquired adult heart disease.

Thoracic Surgery
The hospital is a national referral centre for lung resections, performing approximately 50% of the country’s lung resections. Thoracic surgeons in the hospital accept referrals from regional and supra-regional hospitals, including major hospitals in Dublin such as Tallaght University Hospital and Beaumont Hospital.

The number of lung resections performed in the hospital has increased significantly since the service was established. There are two nurse-led services within the thoracic surgery service; a Pre-Admission Clinic and a Surveillance and Survivorship Clinic.
